Itinerary

Day 1 (Dec 16th)

  • 4:00-6:00 pm – Organizing field gear at hotel

  • 7:00 pm – Dinner at Minor / Ivannia’s house

 

Day 2 (Dec 17th) – Shark and Ray tagging day

  • 6:00 am – Breakfast at Minor / Ivannia’s house

  • 6:30 am – Leaving to Santa Elena Bay

  • 7:30 am – Arriving to Santa Elena Bay

  • 7:45 am – Conduct shark and ray surveys with drones

  • 8:00 am – Deploy first bottom longline to capture sharks and rays

  • 8:30 am – Catch round rays with hand nets along the beach

  • 9:30 am – Measure, tag and release sharks and rays captured

  • 11:30 am - Deploy second bottom longline to capture sharks and rays

  • 12:00 pm – Lunch at Matapalito Bay

  • 12:45 pm – Catch round rays with hand nets along the mangrove

  • 1:30 pm – Measure, tag and release sharks and rays captured

  • 2:00 pm – Return trip to Cuajiniquil

  • 3:00 pm – Rinse and organize all field equipment at Minor’s house

  • 5:00 pm – Data entry from field activities

  • 7:00 pm – Dinner at Minor / Ivannia’s house

 

Note: For these activities you need to take your snorkel gear (optional- loaners available), sunscreen, hat and proper clothing for swimming / snorkeling, rain jackets.

 

 

Day 3 (Dec 18th) – Monitoring of shark and rays with BRUVS and SCUBA diving

  • 6:30 am – Breakfast at Minor / Ivannia’s house

  • 7:00 am – Leaving to El Zoncho

  • 7:30 am – Arriving to Santa Elena Bay

  • 8:00 am – Deploying BRUVS at El Zoncho (3 stereo cameras)

  • 8:30 am – Diving at El Zoncho to survey sharks and rays

  • 9:30 am – Recovered BRUVS

  • 10:30 pm – Deploying BRUVS at Bajo Rojo / Viejon (second round of 3 stereo cameras)

  • 11:00 am – Diving/snorkeling at Bajo Rojo / Viejon to survey sharks and rays

  • 12:00 pm – Recovered BRUVS

  • 12:30 pm – Return trip to Cuajiniquil

  • 1:30 pm – Lunch at Minor’s house

  • 2:15 pm – Rinse and organize all field equipment at Minor’s house

  • 5:30 pm – Sunset at Junquillal Beach

  • 7:00 pm – Dinner at Minor / Ivannia’s house

 

Note: For these activities you need to take your snorkel and diving gear (optional- loaners available), sunscreen, hat and proper clothing for swimming / snorkeling, rain jackets.

 

Day 4 (Dec 19th)

  • 7:00 am – Breakfast at Minor / Ivannia’s house

  • 7:30 am – Local Exploration, Playa Escondido Hike + swim , Lunch at Arrecife Restaurant
